Maintaining Aims and Values

Schools maintain their aims and values first through clear and consistent communication. These are prominently displayed in the school prospectus, website, and internal literature so that staff, pupils, parents, and the wider community are fully aware of the institution’s vision and moral code. By embedding aims and values in everyday school life—such as during assemblies, in classroom discussions, and through behaviour policies—schools ensure that these principles guide decision-making and interactions at all levels. This transparency helps build trust with families, as parents often form their first impressions of the school from these sources.

Schools also uphold their aims and values by forging strong links with the local community. This is achieved through practical initiatives such as pupil-led fundraising for local charities, inviting business representatives or community figures as guest speakers, hosting career information days, and involving school governors in strategic planning. Encouraging parental involvement, welcoming visitors from places of worship, and organising community events like school fairs demonstrate a commitment to shared responsibility and social contribution. These activities bring the school’s values—such as respect, kindness, and appreciation—into real-world action.

Finally, schools maintain their aims through targeted internal practices that directly support pupil development. For example, to meet the aim of providing right support at the right time, any child with additional learning needs is promptly assessed, and the Additional Learning Needs Coordinator (ALNCo) collaborates with class teachers to deliver tailored support, enabling every child to reach their full potential. Similarly, values like striving for excellence are upheld through an ambitious curriculum delivered by a skilled and nurturing staff team, while fostering relationships is supported by effective communication and creating a calm, inclusive environment where pupils feel a sense of belonging.
